Dr. Jay Grief Program

About the Charity

The Dr. Jay Charitable Foundation’s vision is for “All families needing palliative care for a terminally ill child or for children who are dealing with the death of a loved one, to have ready access to all information, services and range of options whether available in a hospital, hospice, communities or at home.”

The Dr. Jay Children’s Grief Program is devoted to teaching families and children to deal with grief, dying and the healing process. The program focuses on the following:

  • Programs to support children who are dying or are experiencing the death of a family member. These programs help patients and their families before and after the loss of
    a loved one.

  • Educational and support groups for families and caregivers of grieving and of terminally
    ill children.

  • Outreach initiatives to teach professionals, volunteers, and spiritual leaders about the unique needs of children facing terminal illness.

Since it’s inception, in May, 2006, The Dr. Jay Children’s Grief Program has supported over 600 grieving or terminally ill children and their families.  There are only 4 counselors who work directly with these families.  Children who are dealing with the trauma of death by violence and suicide are being supported as well.  This program is the only one of its kind in Canada and receives no government funding.  The Dr. Jay Charitable Foundation provides this service free for all families who need it.
